Key Features

Pregnancy Dating Scans

Your dating scan is an important step in your pregnancy, which provides a due date for your baby’s arrival. It may also be the first time you see your baby, making it a highlight of your journey towards parenthood.

  • Prepare for your new arrival

Dating scans give you the information needed to plan for your baby’s arrival. An accurate estimated due date (EDD) will also help your healthcare team to provide the best care if your baby is born early or late.

  • The choice is yours

We offer a range of scan types from as early as 6 weeks up until 38 weeks, to cover the full scope of your pregnancy journey. We give you the choice to book scans when and where you’d like to have them.

  • Find a pregnancy ultrasound scan near you

Our scan search allows you to choose from over 20 pregnancy scanning centres, to find a convenient location near you.

  • No hidden costs

Compare pregnancy ultrasound scan costs upfront, and find a price to suit your budget, starting from £80. The price you pay includes copies of your scan images and expert care at your selected centre.

What can a pregnancy dating scan show?

A dating scan takes 15 minutes, and can be carried out from around 12 weeks into your pregnancy.

Due date

A dating scan will measure your baby, to estimate how far along you are, and when your baby is due.

Number of babies

In your dating scan, you’ll find out whether you are pregnant with more than one baby (e.g. twins).

Heartbeat & development

Your sonographer will also assess your baby’s heartbeat, overall development, and any major physical abnormalities.

Reassurance & bonding

A dating scan offers the opportunity to check in on your baby, and learn more about how they are developing.

What is an ultrasound scan?

And how does it work?

Ultrasound is a safe and popular medical imaging method, used to create pictures (sonograms) of your baby, without using radiation. It can give key insights into your baby’s health and development throughout pregnancy.

The ultrasound scanner, also known as a transducer, emits high-frequency sound waves, which bounce off your bodily tissues and the baby. The echoes created are recorded, and used to generate images on a screen in real-time.

What can a dating scan tell you?

Our dating ultrasound scans allow sonographers to check your baby’s development, and use their measurements to estimate a due date. You’ll also find out how many babies you are expecting, and have the chance to see your baby for what might be the first time.

How long does a dating scan take?

A dating scan lasts around 15 minutes. We ask you to arrive 15 minutes early, and you might be required to wait on-site after your appointment while your results and images are prepared. Drinking 2 or three glasses of water about an hour before your scan helps to fill your bladder and may help improve the scan imaging.
